Assignments in Syllabird
Assignments are lessons or tasks that are part of a course. All the assignments in a course make up the curriculum or "course plan".
Assignments appear in the calendar after enrolling a student in a course.
Course Plan vs Calendar Assignments
Think of course plan assignments as distinct but connected to calendar assignments:
- Course plan assignments outline the overall curriculum. They're set for specific days and weeks, not fixed dates.
- Calendar assignments are the scheduled tasks for each student. These are tied to specific dates on the calendar.
By separating the course plan/curriculum assignments from the calendar assignments, you can reuse the same course plan for multiple students or for future years. You can also easily reschedule individual calendar assignments if a student needs to take time off or if there are other changes to their schedule.
Assignment Properties
Assignments in the course plan have these basic properties:
- Name: A name for the assignment.
- Type: Every assignment is categorized as Homework, Quiz, Test, etc.
- Week and Day: The week and day of the course when the assignment occurs (or 'unscheduled' if it can occur any time).
- Duration: The number of days a student has to complete an assignment. The default is 0, meaning “due on the same day.”
- Graded: Indicates whether the assignment is graded or not.
Assignments can have these additional properties:
- Description: A brief overview or instructions for the assignment.
- Attachments: PDFs, text documents, presentations, spreadsheets, or images can be attached to assignments, providing extra information or resources.
- Teacher's Notes: Notes or comments for the teacher's reference only. Students can't see these.
